Maria's US Open run ended today after she lost to #1 seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 3-6 4-6 in the 4th round.
Maria showed flashes of her best game, with?powerful?groundstrokes that her opponent could not handle, and she was clearly the player dictating the game, hitting either a winner or an error.
The problem was her serve, Maria committed 9?double faults and that was the big difference in the game. Maria needed her A game to beat a stubborn opponent like Wozniacki who gets a lot of balls back and does not beat herself.
Maria's groundstrokes were compensating for that, but Wozniacki was forcing Maria to hit one or two extra shots and that combined with Maria's difficulties with her serve were putting more and more pressure on Maria and she started to make more errors.
